I've been rewatching season 2 of Buffy this week. This show still owns my heart.

I spend the better half of my time cracking up over Angel because I still have trouble not... doing that.

Ted: How come I don't remember the scene of Miss Calendar shooting Giles in the back with a crossbow? That's both really painful for my favourite Watcher I'm sure, but also very funny in context! So, in selfsame ep Buffy gets smacked around a bit by Ted, but doesn't bruise one bit. In the next episode, Bad Eggs, Cordelia introduces her face to a metal pipe and she gets this huge bruise on her forehead? There was nothing indicating that those being controlled by the bezoar spawn were given superhuman strength or anything.

Surprise: Hey there, I see you foreshadowing Buffy's loss of virginity with that dinner plate, Joyce. You be unsubtle thar, show. And Angel is more than likely lying to Buffy regarding Drusilla being dead in the scene where she shows up at his place - not buying for one second that he *wouldn't* sense if Dru 'died' died.

Phases: "I just don't trust Oz with her. I mean, he's a senior. He's attractive. Ok, maybe not to me, but..." You are never going to make me believe in a hundred years that Xander is *all* those 100% of straight. Never, never, never.

I Only Have Eyes For You: First time the Mayor is mentioned (with underlying dun-dun-dun music). Also, there are a lot of snakes in this ep. Coincidence?

Go Fish: No comments. Only this song.

The theme of season 2 is (the great big romance of Bangel!!1!!1) the Scoobies' confrontation with the shadow self of a boyfriend/girlfriend: Oz/the wolf, Jenny/Janna, Angel/Angelus, Giles/Ripper and even in Willow's case with Xander who gets split into dorky best friend who is also a potential romantic interest/fiend who turns his back on her in favour of canoodling with their sworn enemy since first grade.

There can also be drawn obvious parallels between Kendra, Ampata, Jenny Calendar and Buffy in regards to sacrificing themselves - putting the better of their clan/people/fellow classmates before their own lives, no matter how much they may or may not wish to have that certain burden on them is also something the season underlines.

Oh, and one last important thing: wheelchairs -- Willow, Buffy, and Spike all end up in them. I doubt any of the other seasons can boast with that accomplishment.
