• While I thoroughly enjoyed Jennifer Lawrence's acting and portrayal of Katniss in The Hunger Games movie (book!Katniss and movie!Katniss are two different creatures, though), I did find it very problematic that the person playing this character is, y'know, white, considering the fact that Katniss is described as being ''olive-skinned'' with ''black hair''. There's a Tumblr blog which focuses on the white-washing of the movie and character of Katniss Everdeen. Go check out katnissisoliveskinneddealwithit.

Surprise Masturbation Scene in Mockingjay - gotta admit, the innuendo flew over my head while reading that chapter. Pretty sure I would have enjoyed the third book a lot more if it had mainly consisted of Katniss doin' some marathon self-pleasuring. Hey, just keeping it real. :P

Video Games vs. Real Life - I love these! *likes the person who made these*

• And let's keep it in video game land - Identity Should Always Be Part of the Gameplay.

Fairy Tale Posters - I really like the Beauty and the Beast one. And damn, Pinocchio, you are creepy motherfucker. :P

• Come play!

Pick a trope from this list and provide a fandom/pairing and I'll tell you something about the story I'd write for that combination (i.e. write a snippet from the story or write not!fic or tell you the title and summary for the story I would write)

1. genderswap
2. bodyswap
3. drunk!fic
4. huddling for warmth
5. pretending to be married
6. secretly a virgin
7. amnesia
8. cross-dressing
9. forced to share a bed
10. truth or dare
11. historical AU
12. accidental-baby-acquisition
13. apocalypse fic
14. telepathy
15. High School / College AU

Not sure I get what's going on, but I definitely like it~ 720 HD is your bestest friend. A teeny bit NSFW, I guess?

Also, awesome song.

Sean Maher -- Simon Tam in "Firefly" -- is gay. Welcome to the family, Dr. Tam. :)

• So, there's this cartoon show called Adventure Time? And having no preceding knowledge of the show, I watched this episode of it, "What Was Missing," and --- uh, let's just say that a lot of things went down after it aired regarding the pairing of Marceline/Princess Bubblegum, okay? I suggest you watch the episode first of all. Then there's a timeline post of the events that followed and someone sums up their feelings on what went down during "What Was Missing."

I'll be keeping an eye out for what is going to happen next.

• All I see when I look at this picture of Joe Manganiello is how season 5 of True Blood should kick off: here's stuff enough for at least three episodes - where's my money, HBO? )

I think it'd be neat. :) Basically, I'll take anything that isn't Eric/Sookie/Bill next season, please and thank you!

You guys, you guys, Glee! Anyone wanna talk about the spoilerific pics floating around of Dianna at the moment? :D

Because, oh man, I might just have figured out what the entire third season of Glee is going to be about!

So, I'm guessing it'll be a little like this:

Quinn-Can-Always-Go-Gay : Utena. The hair. Nuff said.
Rachel : erh, Wakaba? Quirky personality and has some fairly odd fascination with a guy that isn't the nicest around.
Finn : Saionji. Finn may not physically hurt women, but he sure does have his douchebag moments. Hence the nomination as Saionji. Also, complicated friendship with a certain Jewish boy.
Puck : Touga. They both like to stick their dicks in things. Nuff said.
Santana : Juri *and* Kozue. I see Santana as being a mix of both their personalities.
Brittany : Chu-Chu. They both say a lot of clever things. Too bad no one understands them.
Artie : Miki. Comes off as nice to begin with, but the more you get to know him, the more messed up you start to suspect he actually is.
Tina : Anthy. Says next to nothing, and no one cares about her opinion anyways.
Wait... does that mean we should all start shipping Quinn/Tina? Quinntina?

Okay, so, not really. That was me being the opposite of serious. :P

But, seriously, what's up with new hair colour?! And "Hell Is So Hot Right Now"? Ooh, has Quinnie been sinning after she got back from New York? Perhaps making out with either Santana/Brittany and/or Rachel? Looking forward to whatever the hell *that* storyline is going to be about, because, really, I love everything you choose your sweet teenage rebel ass to be, Quinn! :D It's very entertaining to watch, I assure you. Also, I just really like your ass. Period.

Bottom line, tho:

So there you have it. :P

- Also, this: Reinterpreting Disney Princess Costumes Through a Historical Lens. Loving the drawings!
- And: Apparently, Ashley Benson is a Hanna/Emily shipper

Is it me or are things kind of quiet around here in LJ land?

.... just a little?

- I think everyone's heard of the Quick Summary tumblr. I thought I'd share the Pretty Little Liars one:

A group of teenage girls is grief-stricken when one of their friends dies. But then the friend texts them post-mortem threatening to share all their dirty secrets like how one of them is a lesbian. The girls must find out who killed their friend and quick before everyone finds out how lesbian they are.

So, basically, truer words have never been written in the world of ever. Although, as far as Alison actually being A is up for discussion...

- Emily Carroll's short webcomic, the story of how the goddess Anu-Anulan falls in love with Yir's daughter, Yorenn, can be read here. Gorgeous drawings!

- Link: 60 Awesome Portraits of 60 Gay Couples Just Married in New York State

- Link: Also, *this*: Olly Moss' paper cuts. These are brilliant!

- So, I just found the most awesome piece of Fringe fanart in the world! Don't believe me?

See for yourself! )

- Meme time:

The Hypothetical AU Meme: Take any one of the fandoms you know I write/rec/read AND give me a type of AU (space opera AU, pirate AU, superhero AU, etc) or another time period (Ancient Rome, Regency England, etc). I will then explain the gist of the story I would write for that AU.
hyena_gal: (shiznat)

Well done, you Americans! I wholeheartedly approve of this! :)

See? I'm not the only one who thinks this is great: a certain ~Lebanese~ woman has something to say about it too...

So, anyone wanna play? Let's celebrate!!! \o/ Methinks celebratory kisses and/or porn of the f/f variety is in order (m/m is welcome too -- equality after all)!

Feel free to prompt me with a pairing & scenario or action in a fandom I'm familiar with!

hyena_gal: (santana)
So. Uhm...

*Guh!* Both to the song itself *and* the video. I know what I am going to listen to on repeat from now on...

Austra - Beat and the Pulse.

Oh hai, interwebz! Whaz up?

I've just resurfaced from finishing a much too long assignment, but it's over and done with now and I'm free as a bird and ready to play! :D I hope everybody had a nice Christmas. As for New Year's resolutions, *I* for one am going to finish some goddamn *fic* this year, that's for sure! I'm determined! Lo and behold, this is my Determined Face: >:❘

In other news:

[livejournal.com profile] jossverse_bb is coming up! If you're one of those persons who can bang out 10,000 words, and you're still, y'know, interested in BtVS, then go check it out. Sign ups from now till March 1st.

[livejournal.com profile] halfamoon  is coming up too! February 1 through Valentine's Day. In case you haven't heard of it, it's two weeks of celebrating women being awesomely awesome with fics, vids, and what have you, so come bring your girl-loving ways and squee about your woman/women of choice!

The 2011 New Year's Resolution Challenge is open!  The NYR Challenge lets anyone write and upload a story of ANY length, inspired by any of the Yuletide 2010 prompts, including those of our non-participant pinch hitters. Just make sure to add the recipient name of the Yuletider whose prompt you use. And the deadline is until the next sign up for Yuletide, which is in November this year, so -- that's a lot of time (she said and believed it in her heart of hearts...). I have my eyes set on one or two prompts, so... I guess we'll see what happens. :P

So, in a desperate attempt to get myself into the ~groove~ of this writing business, I'm offering porn in the form of drabbles. Everybody wants smut, right? Everything goes, basically. I'm open to all prompts, unconventional or not:

Give me a pairing and a prompt, and I will write you no less than 100 words (or more) of dirty dirty porn. Or, you know, as dirty as I can make it, because this is me we're talking about, and I can't really write anything super filthy.

Fandoms up for grabs: Glee, True Blood, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Legend of the Seeker, Mai-HiME/Otome, Skins (gen 2), Noir, Firefly, BtVS, Merlin. I may have forgot some...

- I *love* the four new Black Swan posters for the movie! Pretty, pretty posters! Go check them out!

- I'm not doing NaNoWriMo this time around - maybe in a couple of years I'll give it a try, because... that's a *lot* of words you need to write. I'm full of admiration for those of you who dare brave the task. You seriously rock! \0/. But, anyway, here's a page I didn't know about which will come in handy the day I decide to try my hand at a novel-sized writing endeavour: http://litlift.com.

From the website: LitLift is a free online novel writing application built to help you research, store and organize the information you'll need to write your novel. Whether you're writing a mystery, a romance or the next great science fiction trilogy, LitLift is designed to help you make the most of your writing time.

- Read Ash by Malinda Lo. Will someone please, please, please write some Ash/Kaisa epilogue fic for Yuletide? Or any other fest or for any other reason for that matter? *puppy eyes*

- Look, I like beer, I like drinking it and relaxing with a single cold bottle in my hand on a warm summer day, but it's the packaging of this brew in particular that just... I don't know. 'What the hell' covers it nicely, I think.

- The game The Path: it's basically Angela Carter's Bloody Chamber meets Silent Hill in pure creepiness and disturbingness of what's implied in the imagery connected with each of the different girls when they meet their individual Wolf. For example, Carmen's meeting with her Wolf goes like this. /successfully creeped out./ I definitely recommend checking this game out, if not just the videos on Youtube, to get an idea of what this experimental indie game is like. If you like fairy tales and the darker tone the original version of Little Riding Hood had, then go check out The Path.

- I approve mightily of this: Jane Austen Fight Club

I lack words for how goddamn adorable Dianna Agron is in this vid, performing Push It with Thao Ngyen and The Bombs during the 826LA Chickens in Love benefit concert. All credit goes to [livejournal.com profile] kben for the footage.

As a natural result of the hearts I'm having in my eyes right now, I feel like doing some Dianna spamming:

... And here's 35 pictures of her in a pair of sweatpants and a pink bikini top, and nothing else, too. You're no friend of mine if you can't enjoy. ;)

Damn you, Blake Lively, for presenting me with *this* picture of yourself, which is undiluted perv fodder for my brain! Damn you!!!

Ya won't believe the studliness beneath this cut! Seriously! )

+ Hall of Antlers... only a tad freaky.
Mexico City and DC legalize gay marriage!

Is there a better way to spend the days before Christmas making your way through season 3 and 4 of Dexter?

Season 3. Season 4. Spoilers. )                                                            'Tis the season to be homicidal...

Drive-by posting:

+ Have watched season 3 of Skins: Oh, Emily! Oh, Naomi! Oh, Effy! Oh, all you *kids!* is all I'm really capable of commuting right now about this series. Am feeling the Skins love, and will most certainly check out fic for the Naomily pairing! Skins!

+ The massively long list of
Yuletide nominated fandoms is up! And a lot of my fandoms are on it! Oh man, can't wait for December! :D

+ And for laughs - we all know Keanu Reeves might not be best actor in the world, but did you also know that he's, like, immortal?
hyena_gal: (grinofdeath)
I've been watching TV shows like whoa these last couple of days.

Dexter: The only thing I have to say is omg, omg *flails* - how come I've only given this show a watch first *now*? Loved it. I really, really enjoyed the first season of this. Here's crossing fingers for the greatness to continue in season 2. And since Michael C. Hall had me remembering how brilliant Six Feet Under was I've started watching that as well.

Glee: is brainless fun. It sure knows how to put songs in your head, though. I for one have fallen victim to I Say A Little Prayer, as performed by Aretha Franklin. I'll be tuning in for the next episode.

Merlin: King Giles! And Katie McGrath is really unneccessarily distracting with all her pretty. Uh... they really weren't lying about the slashy subtext in this series, were they? Between Arthur and Merlin being bound-by-fate (boy)friends and Morgana and Gwen Fingersmithing scenes up, I'm entertained enough to hang around. Also, seriously - Katie. McGrath. Superman has kryptonite - I have Irish brunettes. *coughElaineCassidycough*

Vampire Diaries: I gave this a try up to episode 4. I'm... dropping it, for now. It's like Buffy, Twilight and aspects of True Blood got together and had some mishappen kid. I think I'll sacrifice it in favour of something else. For example Sarah Connor Chronicles. I mean, Lena Headey in a tank-top + acting totally badass = should be enough for everyone in the world to feel satisfied.

Beware: now it is time for me to bring out the pimp cane! If you like your music to come with a little accompanying genderfuck in the video, I have the link for you: IAMX feat. Imogen Heap with My Secret Friend. Chris Corner-as-girl is just as freaky as he of course should be, and Imogen-as-boy is gosh darnit gorgeous. Lovely song, too.

............ I still miss New York. Woe is me. :(

In other news: over at [info]cidercupcakes, an event called Home Team is highlighting everyone's favorite female fictional characters; you can vote until July 27th. I recommend you check it out, whether it's to nominate your own, to support another nomination (you can do so by replying to a nomination; all replies to nominations are counted as support votes for nominations, so don't bother reply to anything unless you're trying to show support for a nom. You cannot make a negative vote). If you do want to nominate someone, please check first to make sure the character hasn't already been nominated--characters should only be nominated once, although you can nominate as many unique characters as you'd like. More detailed rules are of course listed at her LJ entry.
Browse the threads for your own favorites. :)

My own list of fantastic fictional females! )

Off to New York for the next two weeks tomorrow morning. My first time visiting the Big Apple, as well as the United States. Here's hoping it will be as awesome an experience as I'm imagining the entire thing to be in my head!

I am, understandably, very excited.  :-)

But here's the *real* reason why I'm looking forward to this trip... )
